Volunteering
Get plugged in and join our ministry by volunteering.
Volunteering is a great way to participate in our ministry and see the tri-parish St. Croix Catholic Faith Formation (SCCFF) Programs in action, to socialize with staff, students, and other parents, and to build a Catholic, Christian community. Any amount of volunteer time is appreciated whether it is given one time or on a regular basis. If you are available to assist us, please fill out and return the Volunteer Ministry Form. For an explanation of the volunteer areas, read our Volunteer Ministry Booklet.
Criminal background checks are required and you will be required to fill out a 2011-2012 Volunteer Background Check Packet. The expense of these background checks will be paid for by St. Croix Catholic Faith Formation.
The Archdiocese requires that any adult 18 years of age or older who has contact with a child attend a VIRTUS “Virtus – Protecting God’s Children” training session. If you have not had this training in the past, a schedule is available on-line at www.virtus.org or through our office. We request that you complete VIRTUS training as soon as possible. This useful training lasts for three hours and it can be applied towards future volunteer and employment opportunities.
Please visit the Virtus website to register. Advanced registration is required.
VIRTUS TRAINING SESSIONS: We have two local sessions scheduled for all volunteers of the Tri-Parish community (St. Michael, St Mary, St Charles, SCCS, and SCCFF) on Monday, September 19, in St. Michael’s Social Hall and also on Tuesday, October 25, in St. Mary’s Great Hall. Both of these sessions will last approximately 3 hours, 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. You will only have to attend one. It is important that you arrive on time for this training. If you do not have internet access, please let the SCCFF office know by September 14 and we will complete the online registration for you. If you cannot attend one of these sessions, you must register for another date, scheduled throughout the Archdiocese, and available on the Virtus website.
This training is important for two reasons: it is the right thing to do to heighten awareness of the need to provide children, youth and vulnerable adults with safe environments, especially within the church, and because the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops is mandating that each diocese provide such programs. This is one of three compliance steps all volunteers must complete. Any volunteer who does not attend a Virtus session, sign a Code of Conduct form, and agree to a background check will not be able to volunteer with children in any school, faith formation, or parish program.
Attendance is required for all SCCFF volunteers. NOTE: If you have attended a Virtus Training session in previous years you do not have to attend another one.
Also required is a signed Volunteer Code of Conduct . This form needs to be signed every year.
We welcome parents, grandparents and guardians as part of our volunteer team. Please come and join us, we look forward to meeting you and getting to know you.
